At nights when others slept, he would study under a lamp post on a Railway platform.
As fate would have it, after his Post Graduation in Commerce, he got to write for Onlooker as a trainee reporter. In due course he served as the Editor of Onlooker, then The Sunday Observer and The Daily prior to joining the television industry around 23 years ago. He, till recently also served as the President of The News Broadcasters Association of India (NBA) for two consecutive terms. He is also the Vice President, Strategic Affairs of The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF).
2004 proved to be an important milestone in his life. India TV was launched. For over last five years the channel is India’s most watched news channel and is one of the top-most trusted news broadcasting brands in India. Its Newsbreaks have inspired talk shows on rival channels, Bollywood films, Documentaries, Articles in Time Magazine & even Amul hoardings.
India TV has been awarded with the prestigious Indian Television Academy award for the Best Hindi News Channel for the year 2016.
Rajat Sharma has been conferred with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest Civilian Honour in 2015 for his contribution to the field of Literature and Education.
