Manish Sisodia is the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party. Widely recognized across India as the country’s finest Education Minister, he has dramatically turned around the state of Delhi’s public school machinery in a span of three years. As Finance Minister, he was instrumental in boosting Delhi’s economy by lowering indirect tax rates. Despite lowering tax rates, he built a relationship of trust with businesses across the city, resulting in an unprecedented increase in tax revenues.
Sisodia was one of the faces of the 2011 Anti-corruption movement that successfully built public pressure for a strong ombudsman law in response to reports of unprecedented government corruption. On the back of a movement that had captured the imagination of the people, Sisodia was elected to office for the first time in 2013, and subsequently in 2015. In what is a true testament to the democratic process, Minister Sisodia has successfully used his political capital toward rolling out programs he had once campaigned for as an activist.
