YARLAGADDA LAKSHMI PRASAD popularly known as “YLP” is working for the desired cause of National Integration. Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad has been making yeomen contribution over the years with the medium he chose for this noble cause being cross cultural and linguistic exchanges at popular level since language in a way is a barrier for such integration. He is one of the pioneers in facilitating this wider interaction through his relentless efforts for translating acclaimed literary works of Hindi and Telugu, the largest spoken languages of our country, into each other. Dr. Yarlagadda is felicitated with the prestigious Central Sahitya Academy Awards twice for translation and creative writing. His literary pursuits towards the cause of National Integration were well served by the rarity of possessing doctorate degrees both in Hindi and Telugu. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) between 1996 and 2002. He served as as Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language. He also served as Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Hindi and the Chairman of the High Power Committee on Official Language, University Grants commission, New Delhi. Dr. Yarlagadda was also the first Director of Indian Cultural Centre, at Toronto, Canada during the years 2012-13.
Dr. Yarlagadda was honored with PADMA SRI in the year 2003 and PADMABHUSHAN in 2016 for his contributions to the domain of literature which inspired him even more to strive for expanding literary horizons in the cause of the Nation. Presently, Dr. Yarlagadda is a Member of the Central Hindi Committee headed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
