Dr. Shirish Sankhe is a Director and Senior Partner in McKinsey’s Mumbai office and supports clients in our Energy and Infrastructure practices. He is also on the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) Council, and advises MGI on research related to economic policy and urbanization
In his 20 years with McKinsey, Shirish has worked closely with major energy and infrastructure companies in India and across the world. He specializes in transformations and turnarounds of these companies; over the past decade he has helped over ten such companies achieve significant, sustained performance improvement. He is also an expert in the global energy and mining industries.
Shirish spends a significant portion of his time on public policy work in India, working with the government on the process of urbanization, and driving economic growth. In 2010, Shirish authored the landmark MGI report on India’s urbanization, a topic he is passionate about. In 2014 he again co-authored an MGI report, this time on “India’s path from poverty to empowerment.”
Prior to joining McKinsey, Shirish received a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and worked for Mobil Oil in the U.S. as a research engineer.
