Kunal Sarangi represents Baharagora ( Tri-junction of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha ) in the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly of India. In the assembly elections concluded in December 2014, he defeated the ex-State BJP ( the ruling party now) president of Jharkhand by more than 15000 votes to become the youngest MLA in the history of Baharagora constituency. He is currently the whip of the opposition in Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, central
spokesperson of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha ( JMM) – main opposition party in Jharkhand and a member of the Public Accounts Committee ( PAC) of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly.
In the year 2015, he represented Jharkhand assembly at National CPA conference in Goa and at the National Whips’ conference (2016) in Vishakhapatnam. He has represented Jharkhand in the National Legislature Conference ( 2018) in New Delhi and National Whips’ conference (2018) in Udaipur. He is also the youngest whip of Jharkhand assembly and a nominated member in the governing councils of Birsa Agriculture University(BAU), Ranchi and National University of Study and Research in law ( NUSRL), Ranchi. In 2016, MIT Pune in their annual BCS conference – one of the world’s biggest international conferences to felicitate social and political leaders -Kunal was chosen as the ‘Ideal Youth MLA’ of India. In 2016 he became the first MLA from Jharkhand to be a part of the Indian delegation for the ‘young politicians’ visit to the UK’ program by the British High Commission. In 2017 he was invited by the Indian High Commission, Trinidad & Tobago to address the ‘people of Indian origin’ living in Post of Spain. In 2018 he became the only and first MLA from Jharkhand to represent India in the Indian delegation for the IVLP – the flagship exchange program by the US Dept of State for global leaders.
Kunal has a B Tech from National Institute of Technology( NIT), Jamshedpur and an MBA from Lancaster University Management School ( LUMS), UK and has also attended a Leadership in Development ( LID) executive Program at the Kennedy School of Harvard University, USA. He worked with many national and international organisations in India and abroad for around 9 years before taking the electoral plunge in 2014.
