Navniet Sekera is an inspirational leader, who has changed many lives through innovative initiatives. An alumnus of IIT Roorkee and ISB Hyderabad, Sekera is currently a senior officer in the Indian Police Service. He has received the Chief Minister’s Award for Innovation in 2002, Police Medal for Gallantry in 2004, President Medal for Meritorious Service in 2013, HT Women Award in 2018 and Digital India Excellence Award in 2018.
Sekera was the architect of the ‘Women Power Line 1090’ in the state of Uttar Pradesh in 2012. This was the first such initiative in the country. By hiring 72,456 women special police officers, this initiative allowed victims of sexual harassment to report crimes confidentially via telephone. More importantly, the team acted speedily to put an end to their harassment. Women Power Line 1090 has helped 11.2 million women in six years. It has also been replicated by several other states such as Goa and Madhya Pradesh.
Apart from being a police officer, Sekera is an author, a teacher and an active citizen. He has written a book titled Mobile Phone Forensics and Electronic Surveillance, and is now working on work of fiction. He lectures in leading institutions across the country on themes such as leadership and women empowerment. Sekera has worked closely with civil society and has much mass appeal. He is followed by millions on social media and Bollywood producers are currently making a biopic on his life.
