Sourav Roy leads the corporate social responsibility efforts of Tata Steel Limited, which is among the
oldest, most diverse and meaningful corporate – community interfaces across India Inc. and reaches
more than a million lives every year in some of the most underserved regions of the country.
Sourav joined the Tata group as part of the Tata Administrative Services – the flagship leadership
programme of the group. He worked for almost a decade towards acquiring, divesting and
restructuring Tata businesses globally. Subsequently, he anchored the sustainability strategy work of
the Tata Sustainability Group (TSG) and worked with Tata companies to integrate social and
environmental aspects within their approaches to business. He has also set up disaster response
frameworks disaster response frameworks for the Tata group including several firsts like a trained
cadre of disaster response managers and India’s first private sector guidelines on disaster response
while also managing post disaster relief and long term rehabilitation programmes within and
outside India. He has also worked with the Grameen Bank (Bangladesh) and other organizations in
the Indian development space before joining the Tata group.
He combines an education in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad
and economics from the Delhi School of Economics with significant experience in grassroots
development and a deep interest in defining the role of responsible capitalism in addressing the
most difficult societal challenges of today.
